We would also really appreciate your support on Tuesday afternoon during the International Couple of the Year presentations as Tina and I get to go onstage as the 2020-2021 Northwest ICOY.  We are planning a group ride down and back.

From the Directors:Happy Spring Everyone!

As you all know, May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month.   This is a great reminder for any driver, whether it’s in a vehicle or on a bike.  We talk a lot about making sure we are seen and making sure we wear our safety gear.  We have opportunities to partake in Shiny Side Up’s (formerly known as Parking Lot Practices) and even ARC and TRC courses to help keep our skills sharp.   You see a big part of Motorcycle Safety Awareness depends on us.  Always being in the right frame of mind when we ride, not being tired, not being distracted, and riding safely.  These are the things we CAN control.  What we can’t control is the other drivers on the roadway.  We can prepare ourselves to be able to “interact” with them and do everything we can to be seen and keep ourselves safe.  Whether that means simply making sure your lane position is visible to them or having to practice your maneuvers because of their actions – it begins with you.  Being alert to the traffic around you, the hazards you may see, and the unknown’s that get thrown our way are all part of riding safely.  Especially as we get out riding more, let’s make sure we are constantly aware of our surroundings!

A great opportunity that comes from May being Motorcycle Safety Awareness month, is the push for more education opportunities in our communities.  Our Motorist Awareness Program is a vital key for our sharing with other drivers.  Take advantage of any chance you may have to hold a Motorist Awareness event – no matter how big or small – to help educate other drivers who share our roadway.  It can be as simple as a folding table with pamphlets at your local grocery store or getting the chance to educate a Driver’s Education class.   How about a MAP table at your fundraiser?

Speaking of getting out riding more, Chapter H started our Thursday night rides on April 15th.   We had 3 bikes (4 riders), and all wore safety gear.  I (Tina) was the only female that joined their spouse….Tom told me that some wives are smarter than others!  It was a brisk 51 mile ride, but it sure felt good to get out.  We enjoyed a nice ride up around Lake Wisconsin over through Poynette and Deforest, ending up at Culver’s in Waunakee.   Looking forward to more adventures! Stay safe! Bruce & Tina Gebhard
